We all know there’s a few key rules to follow when attending a wedding – including not wearing a white dress.
It’s not the only colour you should avoid, according to the principal of The British School of Etiquette Philip Sykes, who says a red outfit is considered rude and can lead to guests being accused of attempting to steal the bride’s spotlight.
So when one wedding guest turned up to a wedding in a bright red dress it didn’t take long for it to be called out online – but it wasn’t the colour that some people found a problem with.
An image was shared on Reddit under the caption: “Hot wedding guests, but talk about stealing attention from the bride with that sheer dress!”
The outfit, featuring a corset top and sheer detailing, divided opinion – with some loving the look.
One wrote: “I don’t really understand why this is such a big deal. She looks stunning, depending on the dress code this could definitely be appropriate for a wedding.”
A second said: “I actually love this dress. It’s stunning, the lace is long enough for it to be appropriate and she’s covered in all the right places. Sadly I could never fit into something like this, but if one of my gorgeous friends wore it to my wedding I’d tell them they look beautiful.”
Others agreed she looked great, but said the choice of dress wasn’t ‘appropriate for a wedding’.
One person said: “OOF, someone is making a STATEMENT with that dress! If I had a bod like that I’d dress like that every damn day. However, I feel like she’s gotta have some beef with the bride, that dress way too hot for a wedding lol.”
Another argued: “This seems a little inappropriate for a family gathering. You have to dress for the event. It’s a nice dress but not the right place to wear it.”
A third simply added: “Looks like lingerie.”
